Fillywiki.com Shutdown

Hello everyone! The end of 2016 is upon us, and what better way to round off such a year than by shutting something down? Yes, the Wiki that I have been hosting on fillywiki.com for some time will be shut down at the end of January, one month from now. Intended to replace a Wiki hosted by Wikia in order to provide a more certain admin structure and better possibilities for customization, it never became more popular than its more accessible and established counterpart and lately has stagnated completely.

Nevertheless, there were some contributions to the new Wiki. If you wish to retrieve these, there are a few options. The website itself will remain available for approximately another month. After that, your contributions can be retrieved in a few ways. I have made an XML backup of the articles, categories and templates used on the Wiki. It can be downloaded here: http://www.fillychan.com/fillywikiarticles.xml

I have also taken a backup of the images stored on the wiki which can be downloaded here: http://www.fillychan.com/fillywikiimages.zip (Warning: 445MB file)

I have also taken a backup of the code, addons, and the settings files used for the Wiki. If anyone wants to create a Wiki with similar functionality or a similar look and feel to what was used by this one, they can be provided upon request.

I have also taken a complete database backup and a backup of the OS image for the server used to host the website. If it is ever decided that the old Wiki would be useful to revive, it can therefore be restored fairly quickly.

I will retain ownership of the domain name. After the server is shut down, it will point for some time to a page explaining the shutdown (possibly this very article). After that, it will be repointed to the Wikia-hosted FillyWiki.

Lastly, I want to ensure that although I'm shutting down one website, it doesn't mean that any of the other ones I host are in any trouble. The website being shut down turned out to not serve any real community purpose, but there is currently no avenue for discussion available to replace Fillychan, which is why I intend to keep operating that. And of course, I intend to keep Funtasia Daily up indefinitely regardless of what happens to the Filly franchise as it is in my opinion the best source for anyone wanting to learn about the development process of Filly Funtasia.

Well, I think that is all that there is to say about this situation. I hope you have a happy new year. We'll be back with some more positive news soon.
